PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pad launches into footcare market

A revolutionary Blister Prevention Pad has been launched by PelliTec®.
Available to chemists now, the circular pads are aimed at outdoor and sports enthusiasts, runners, hikers, and gym-goers. They are also suitable for shoppers who are experiencing discomfort from wearing new footwear as they provide relief from the pain and irritation of blisters.
The inspiration for the new pad came from inside a boxing gym in a bid to create a product that would enable athletes to continue training, despite suffering from blisters. The developers of the product also wanted it to reduce friction and eliminate the risk of blisters forming – making it suitable for both prevention and treatment.
Michael McColgan, Podiatrist and part of the PelliTec® development team said: “We designed the product with the sports industry in mind and we have had great success so far, but we have now opened up availability to a more mainstream audience as blisters affect consumers unexpectedly and our product provides welcome relief.”

Tested on athletes, the pads are much more durable and effective than regular plasters and come in a convenient two pad pack. They can be used on all kinds of footwear, from trainers and hiking boots to sandals and high heels to speed up healing and reduce the occurrence of blisters.
The PelliTec® Blister Prevention Pad sticks to the inside of footwear not the skin and addresses the three causative factors in blister formation by reducing direct pressure, decreasing the shear force by allowing 360-degree lateral movement and wicking away moisture.
By sticking securely to the inside of footwear and adjacent to the blister the PelliTec® pad works to cushion and protect the affected area thereby reducing pressure, pain and discomfort.
The technology behind the PelliTec® blister prevention pad consists of a six-layer ‘sandwich’:
• Baltex layer
• Mylar layer
• Gel layer
• Mylar layer
• Scuba layer
• Adhesive layer

The two plastic Mylar discs and single gel layer within the pad move with the foot reducing the friction which causes blisters to form. The top Baltex layer of the ‘sandwich’ wicks away moisture thus reducing the risk of infection.
Michael continues: “Our unique blister prevention pad relieves the pressure and pain caused by blisters and also reduces the occurrence of them and risk of infection. Blisters can strike at any time so shoppers may purchase them as emergency relief, or stock up on them for the home first aid box.”
